haruka nakamura releases photo book ‘Music with Scenery’

This collection of photos captures the scenes where haruka nakamura’s music could be heard, taken over the past decade. The title ‘Ongaku No Aru Fuukei’ (Music with Scenery) comes from a track on his second album twilight, released in 2010. It later became the title of his 2014 album ‘Ongaku No Aru Fuukei’, reflecting a central theme in the artist’s work.

What kind of scenes inspire the melodies of a musician who weaves melodies that evoke landscapes and images? These are the scenes captured through his eyes. Landscapes from his long journeys, the northern landscapes after relocating to Hokkaido — 88 photos, matching the number of piano keys, are presented here alongside short words from nakamura himself.

The design is by Ricks Ang from KITCHEN. LABEL, who has been a close collaborator for 15 years and worked on albums like ‘twilight’, ‘Ongaku No Aru Fuukei’, and ‘Hikari’.

Excerpt from the Introduction:

“Is there a scene that remains etched in your memory?

From that scene, can you hear music?

I felt like I could hear a melody from the landscapes I saw in Aomori during my childhood. I wanted to play the music that kept flowing in my mind, to let it drop onto the piano keys without any filter. I wanted to channel music through my body like flowing water.

Music resonating with the landscape, just as those precious memories are.

Thus began my journey to find scenes with music.”
